Maker BiH is an initiative launched by the FabLab BiH Association with the aim of activating the maker community and providing support to makers in accessing all necessary tools and resources for better showcasing their potential to the market and the public. This is all with the goal of stimulating economic development and the startup scene and increasing interest in STEM fields in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
How did it all start?
We realized that there were obstacles and challenges in finding workshops that could create various types of prototypes, as well as a lack of access to advanced workshops. Additionally, it became evident that the gap between market demand and educated/qualified workforce was rapidly increasing. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the presence of makers is mostly dispersed and at an individual level, without an ecosystem and support, with the additional problem of the unrecognized role of makers and their rights in the business and legal system. Learning about the MIT initiative to launch makerspaces worldwide, we have dedicated the last 5-6 years to creating a network and building local and regional bridges. In 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, we decided to create and open the first official FabLab in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which soon became the largest in the region. Our visions and projects do not stop here... We have many ideas and the desire to expand the Maker and Fab network throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
How can you use the platform?
You can browse the Maker platform by location, machines, material, process, product, or maker name to find the right maker who can help you realize your ideas, meet your needs, or directly connect with a maker for business opportunities.
