Sarajevo Unlimited Makeathon
Published at: December 22nd 2024
Sarajevo Unlimited is the first regional forum for innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology, born out of the activities of the first year of operation of the entrepreneurial, innovative, and educational center Networks in Sarajevo. One of the guiding ideas of the platform is that the coming generations stay in their own country and create on their own ground, not just being passive users of technology and observers of the digitalization process, but active builders of an entrepreneurial spirit and a stronger fabric of our economy. The event took place from November 30th to December 1st, 2021, at Hotel Hills, Sarajevo.
In addition to super-interesting panels, presentations of successful company work, and sharing knowledge and experiences of successful individuals from the entrepreneurial world, visitors could also attend a two-day Makeathon with a challenge for the conceptual solution and creation of a 'Add-on (product) for blind and/or deaf persons aiming to facilitate the use of any form of mass transport'. The Makeathon was organized by 3D Republic, FabLab Sarajevo, Protodevs, Professor Adis Muminović from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sarajevo, Adi Pax Pandzic, and Maker Hub - MEF. The invitation to the Makeathon was open to all interested parties, regardless of where they come from. The idea of the Makeathon is for young people, working in teams, to realize their idea into a physical prototype within a limited time period (24 hours). What helps them in realizing the idea are provided different 3D printers, as well as top-notch mentors from the industrial and academic communities.
This time, the Makeathon brought together ambitious students, engineers, designers, and programmers who created and presented interesting and innovative prototypes in a short time. Teams competed for the first three places where the predicted prizes were 3,000 KM, 1,000 KM, and 500 KM, as well as support in the form of mentorship. The team chosen by the jury as the most promising out of a total of eight registered teams was a team of our makers consisting of Mirza Muharemović, Dino Hasimbegović, Salih Imamović, and Aid Tabak, under the name "Sigma Echo" with a solution to the challenge that included a financially accessible device to aid in finding luggage for visually impaired persons through the transmission of personalized audio signals.
"This entire competition was a wonderful experience and an opportunity to learn how to realize our innovation," Aid Tabak.
Congratulations to our makers and we wish them every success in the further development of the product!
