A one-day training session by experts from the organization AGNICOLI Bratislava was held for partner organizations in the project "Maker Movement Establishing in BiH and Strengthening in the Visegrad Region, 2021 – 2022," supported by the Visegrad Foundation. The transition to digital production has become more popular with the increase in the number and quality of various IT systems as part of additive manufacturing. As more automated tools are used in production, it has become necessary to model, simulate, and analyze all machines, tools, and materials to optimize the production process itself. In order for participants to learn more details about the role of IT systems in makerspaces, they underwent a one-day training session with experts on topics such as "Right Information - At the Right Time - For the Right Purpose," "Documentation System based on a Shared Repository," "Metadata Schemas in Document Management," "Enterprise IT Infrastructure, Practical Examples (TOGAF, Archimate, ITIL, ...)," "Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect Tool," "ITSM Tool," LabVIEW, LabWindows, TestStand, etc.

Training on Maker Culture and Intellectual Property Protection

The maker culture is an important and inevitable manifestation of the future economic development of any country. It brings market disruptions but also unique opportunities for innovation, research, and development. Along this journey, many makers focus on starting their own businesses, building teams, attracting investors, creating marketing plans, and so on, often not paying enough attention to intellectual property issues. However, these beginnings are precisely the critical time to ensure that makers take the necessary steps to protect their intellectual property, avoiding potential risks of rights loss or inadequate protection. Participants had the opportunity to learn about all of this and more at the training conducted by experts from FabLab BiH as part of the project 'Maker Movement Establishing in BiH and Strengthening in the Visegrad Region, 2021–2022,' supported by the Visegrad Foundation.

Digital transformation, primarily through research and innovation, has an impact on all sectors of the economy and society, changing the way we live, work, and communicate. It is almost impossible to consider competitiveness without the so-called "knowledge economy," i.e., investment in research and development as continuous innovation.

Maker initiative launched in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Many are the positive examples of maker activities that have helped address urgent problems worldwide in the past. One such example is the production of protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic and the establishment of the global e-NABLE community of digital volunteers who use 3D printers to create affordable upper limb prosthetics. Although present in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), their recognition and impact on economic development have unfortunately not been adequately acknowledged, both by the legal system and the broader public in BiH.

Training on Attracting and Retaining Volunteers

Training on Attracting and Retaining Volunteers

What helps a FabLab or makerspace to thrive? Equipment, space, members, the main leader - they certainly play an important role in this. However, what constitutes the backbone of every successful FabLab/makerspace are their volunteers who invest their time, skills, knowledge, and motivation into their work. These skills range from technical, marketing, administrative, and others to those needed for maintaining order and cleanliness of the space. The willingness to help people or contribute to the work of the FabLab/makerspace through their time and talents/knowledge is equally important as working on 3D design and equipment in the space. At the training conducted by experts from Robisz.to (Poland), as part of the project 'Maker Movement Establishing in BiH and Strengthening in the Visegrad Region, 2021–2022,' supported by the Visegrad Foundation, participants learned all the essential aspects of attracting new volunteers, as well as retaining existing ones.
